Mortification of self.

I’ve been re-reading pieces of Huxley’s The Perennial Philosophy trying to find useful information for changing myself. Looking for a guide to being a better person I suppose, but also heavily concerned with questions of ought. In theory the enlightened soul is unmoved by social tradition and acts inaccord simply with the great way. Certainly I’m not near enlightened but does that mean I should play the game just to please others? That displeases me, to which I imagine a guide would retort; “You should be emotionally detached from the action rather than pleased or displeased.”

What else then do I strive to be or exude?

To meet everything (events, people, places, etc.) without passing judgment and accepting them with a disinterested(without preference, lust or yearning)  love.

To see beauty in and have patience with all things.

To get past desires for recognition, power, success, reward, and knowing.

To feel natural in all actions and thoughts.
